The Office of Victim Witness Advocacy (OVWA) is a unit within The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office located in the Passaic County Administration Building, 401 Grand Street, Paterson, New Jersey.  Our main phone number is 973-881-4887. 

Advocates are available to assist and support victims and witnesses as they cope with the impact of crime. They can also provide assistance and support to help minimize any inconveniences associated with participating in the criminal justice system. The PCPO OVWA provides the following services and resources:

• Notification about the status of the criminal case by letter, phone or through the Victim Witness Portal.
• Orientation about criminal justice proceedings and the courtroom setting.
• Information about directions, parking and transportation.
• Accompaniment to court to provide emotional support.
• Information about your legal rights as a crime victim.
• Assistance completing a victim impact statement that lets the prosecutor and/or sentencing judge know how the crime has affected your life and the lives of your family members.
• Assistance filing for crime compensation with the NJ Victims of Crime Compensation Office or requesting restitution for crime-related financial losses.
• Referrals to social service agencies counseling, and other services.
• Advocacy and Support with any problems you experience as a result of the crime itself or from court appearances/participating in the criminal justice system.
• Employer/School Intervention to explain time missed from work/school due to court appearances and/or meeting with the Prosecutor’s Office.
• Victim Witness Waiting Room
• Property Recovery assistance of items held as evidence once the criminal case has been resolved.
• Assistance registering with the V.I.N.E. service to be notified of an incarcerated offender’s change in custody status, including release from custody.
