Domestic violence is abusive behavior in any relationship used by one partner/person to gain or maintain power and control over another partner/person committed by someone 18 years or older, or an emancipated minor, with whom you have one of the following relationships: 

  • current or former spouse
  • current or former household member
  • a person with whom the victim has a child in common
  • a person with whom the victim anticipates having a child in common if one of the parties is pregnant
  • a person with whom the victim has a current or former dating relationship

Domestic violence can be physical, sexual, emotional, economic, psychological, or technological actions or threats of actions or other patterns of coercive behavior that influence another person within an intimate partner relationship. This includes any behaviors that intimidate, manipulate, humiliate, isolate, frighten, terrorize, coerce, threaten, blame, hurt, injure, or wound someone. 

Domestic Violence includes the following acts:

Homicide  Assault  Terroristic Threats
Kidnapping Criminal Restraint False Imprisonment 
Sexual Assault Criminal Sexual Contact Lewdness
Criminal Mischief Burglary Criminal Trespass
Harassment Stalking Criminal Coercion
Stalking Robbery Contempt of a DV Restraining Order
Any other crime involving risk of death or serious bodily injury Cyber Harassment
