Internal Affairs

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office is committed to providing law enforcement services that are fair, effective and impartially applied.  Toward that end, assistant prosecutors, detectives, and support staff are held to the highest standards of official conduct and are expected to respect the rights of all citizens.  Employees’ adherence to this policy, motivated by a moral and professional obligation to perform their job to the best of their ability, is the object of this agency.

The effectiveness of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office in part is dependent upon public approval and acceptance of its law enforcement authority.  This agency must be responsible to the community by providing formal procedures for the processing of complaints from the public regarding individual staff member’s performance and conduct.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office is dedicated to improving the quality of law enforcement services at this Office.  Citizen confidence in the integrity of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office increases through the establishment of meaningful and effective complaint procedures. An effective disciplinary framework also permits the Prosecutor, Chief of Detectives, Superior Officers, and Managerial Staff to monitor compliance with agency rules and regulations, policies and procedures.  Adherence to established rules and regulations, and policies and procedures assist staff in meeting agency objectives, while a monitoring system permits supervisors to identify problem areas requiring increased training or direction.  Finally, PCPO and State Internal Affairs policies seek to ensure fairness and due process protection to citizens and staff alike.

Within the PCPO, the Public Integrity Unit is charged with handling internal affairs complaints pertaining to members of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.  As part of this function the Public Integrity Unit will accept and review internal affairs complaints made by the public regarding an employee of the PCPO.  The Public Integrity Unit will also assist in facilitating a  complaint against a member of another agency.

The Public Integrity Unit coordinates with law enforcement agencies throughout the County on training for and implementation of new policies that affect internal affairs matters.
