The Passaic County Intelligence/Homeland Security Unit is an eight-person squad that, at the direction of the Prosecutor, oversees Passaic County's Intelligence and Information Sharing Network, the Passaic County Counter-Terrorism Task Force and the Passaic County Rapid Deployment Team. The Unit is also responsible for the communications network within the Prosecutor's Office. The Passaic County Intelligence/Homeland Security Unit is also the liaison between Passaic County and the Department of Homeland Security, the Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness and the Urban Area Security Initiative. The unit is comprised of a Chief Assistant Prosecutor, Captain of Detectives, Sergeant of Detectives, four Detectives, a Risk Mitigation Planner and a Communications Administrator. The Passaic County Intelligence/Homeland Security Unit has developed a countywide intelligence/information-sharing network. Through the use of this countywide intelligence/information-sharing network, the Passaic County Intelligence/Homeland Security Unit collects all pertinent intelligence information at the local, state and federal law enforcement levels and inputs it into centralized databases retained in the unit. The information is then collated, analyzed, and disseminated back to the law enforcement community for their use in preventing, investigating or solving criminal acts.

The Passaic County Intelligence/Homeland Security Unit also oversees and participates in the Passaic County Counter-Terrorism Task Force and the Passaic County Rapid Deployment Team. In this capacity, the members of the Passaic County Intelligence/Homeland Security Unit conduct railroad security details, fraudulent document details, mall security details, safe schools details and other traditional law enforcement duties in order to prevent and deter terror related activities and other criminal acts. Members of the unit also are called on to protect against threats to critical infrastructure sites, threats to National Special Security events, coordinate school security threat responses, and to respond to acts of terrorism and technological/natural disasters that arise within the County of Passaic. Lastly, the Passaic County Intelligence/Homeland Security Unit responds to all incidents that may have a nexus to terrorists activity.
