Central Judicial Processing (CJP) Phase I

Defendants who are charged by way of a warrant complaint and are arrested have their First Appearance at CJP.  CJP Phase I is held Monday through Saturday at 1:30 pm. These defendants are scheduled for the next available CJP Phase I date after their arrest.  These defendants are screened by the Speedy Trial Unit (STU).  Screening decisions include moving for detention, referring to Pre-Indictment Court (PIC), or referring to the Grand Jury for presentation.


Central Judicial Processing (CJP) Phase II

Defendants who are charged by way of summons complaint or warrant complaint and have not been arrested are scheduled for CJP Phase II.  CJP Phase II is held three days a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  CJP Phase II dates are approximately two weeks from when the complaint is signed.  During this two week interval the case is screened by the Pre-Indictment Unit (PIC).  The screening decisions include downgrade and remand to municipal court, referral to the Grand Jury for presentation, or referral to Pre-Indictment Court (PIC).
