Animal Cruelty
The Animal Cruelty Unit oversees the enforcement of animal cruelty laws in Passaic County. There is a designated Animal Cruelty Prosecutor (ACP) as well as designated Chief Human Law Enforcement Officers (CHLEO). The ACP and the CHLEO control investigations and take appropriate actions regarding violations of animal cruelty laws within the county. The ACP and CHLEO work closely with Municipal Human Law Enforcement Officers (MHLEO). Each municipality in Passaic County has a designated MHLEO. Individuals who wish to report any acts or suspected acts of animal cruelty should contact the local police department where the alleged incident occurred.
